According to the Chilean newspaper, El Mercurio, 5 tones of ice was stolen from a glacier in southern Chile.
Jorge Montt is the glacier which was reportedly pilfered.
More than 11 thousand pounds of ice was loaded into a truck in plastic bags, and it is assumed the ice was to be used in bars and restaurants for consumption. Authorities are also investigating the use of boats to extract ice from the same glacier.
Current prices of ice in the region place the value of the harvest to be worth 3.5 million Chilean pesos or roughly 7,000 USD.
