On Wednesday, the president of Venezuela suggested that the United States of America may have developed technology to induce cancer in their political opponents, including himself.
Hugo Chavez, long known for inflammatory rabble-rousing rhetoric against the West, suggested he would not be surprised if it was discovered in 50 years that the US caused the cancerous tumor removed from him this June in Cuba.
It was recently discovered that newly elected Argentine president Cristina Fernandez has been diagnosed with cancer as well. It seems that this news prompted Chavez to speak up about his concerns of biological attacks from the US directed towards his supporters and partners in the region.
During a military ceremony, Chavez implicated that the United States was behind ailments to leaders in the region, by pointing out to his audience that “it’s very difficult to explain at this point,” even “with the law of probabilities.” Five individuals who are either presidents, or former presidents in Latin America have been diagnosed with cancer since 2009 including Chavez (Venezuela), Cristina Fernandez (Argentina), Dilma Dilma Rousseff (Brazil), Fernando Lugo (Paraguay), and former Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
Chavez issued a warning to Evo Morales of Bolivia, and Rafael Correa of Ecuador suggesting that they may also be targets of his conspiracy theory given their leftist policies.
