Cristina Fernández de Kirchner was recently reelected with just 54% of the popular vote despite a struggling economy, reports of lavish corruption, and inflation at unofficial rates nearing %25 (vs. 10% officially).
Presumably, the president has drawn attention to the century old dispute with Britain over the Falkland Islands, and has been trying to gin up support politically with other Latin American leaders.
Recently, at the 6th Summit of the Americas held in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, Cristina was said to have stormed out of the event (after disingenuously pausing briefly for a photo-shoot) due to a lack of interest in her attempt to gin up support from regional leaders despite the fact that the Falkland Islands were not even on the agenda for the event.
